TAUNTON, Mass. – Massachusetts casino players can now enjoy a drink while playing electronic bingo at First Light Casino. The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe operated casino began selling alcohol on Tuesday.
The only tribal casino in Massachusetts now serves alcohol through changes from the Federal Register. All casino patrons over the age of 21 can drink starting at 9 am Monday through Saturday and noon on Sunday. Alcohol sales cut off at 9:30 pm from Sunday to Thursday but push back to 11:30 pm on Friday and Saturday.
Tax-Free Alcohol At First Light Casino
“On April 30, 2025, the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribal Council adopted the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribal Liquor Control Ordinance by 2025-RES-034, which regulates and controls the sale, purchase, transportation, manufacture, consumption, and possession of alcoholic beverages on the trust lands of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe,” according to the Federal Register.
The Federal Register serves as the daily journal of the United States Government. The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe Liquor Control Ordinance was certified on April 30 and went into effect on Tuesday, October 14.
Due to the nature of the tribe being a federally recognized sovereign nation, there are no alcohol taxes for consumption or sales. This just means it’s up to the Tribe to determine if they want to impose tax on their liquor sales, which is expected.
First Light Only Has Electronic Bingo; More Offerings Online
While First Light is joining the best legal casinos in terms of alcohol sales, their game selection still remains weak with their Class II gaming license. This restricts them from offering slots and live dealer table games, instead relying on electronic bingo machines that resemble slots.
