UNCASVILLE, Conn. – Metallica will play Mohegan Sun Arena on Thursday, Nov. 19, and Saturday, Nov. 21, for the arena’s 25th anniversary, while Mohegan Sun runs $15,000 TournXtreme slot tournaments on Nov. 11 and 20 for Momentum rewards members.
Metallica Plays Thursday With Suicidal Tendencies And Saturday With Spiritbox
Both of Mohegan Sun’s event pages carry the title “25th Anniversary of Mohegan Sun Arena.” Suicidal Tendencies opens the Thursday show and Spiritbox the Saturday show, the pages say, and each night starts at 7:30 p.m. at the arena, part of Mohegan Sun, one of the legal casinos in Connecticut.
Tickets are sold through Ticketmaster with a four-ticket limit, and the floor is standing general admission with no chairs, the pages say. Neither page lists a ticket price. Metallica announced the two dates on April 6.
Each Tournament Pays Ten Places, With A Third Of The Pool To First
Mohegan Sun’s TournXtreme slot tournaments each pay $15,000 in cash: $5,000 for first, $2,500 for second, $1,500 for third, $1,000 each for fourth through sixth and $750 each for seventh through 10th. The top three places take $9,000, or 60% of each pool, and the seven players below them split the other $6,000. Across both nights that is 20 paid finishes and $30,000 in cash.
Registration runs 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Sky Slot Tournament Zone in Casino of the Sky, next to the Cabaret Theatre, and each member plays one three-minute game. Momentum members who show a valid military ID get one free bonus game in each tournament.
The pages do not give a field size and refer players to the official rules at any Player’s Club booth, so the chance of a paid finish cannot be worked out from what Mohegan Sun has posted. Prizes follow finishing order rather than what the machine pays, which sets the events apart from ordinary slots play. Guests must be 21 or older to game, and each page lists the 888-789-7777 problem-gambling helpline.
Five Status Points Qualify, But Mohegan Sun Does Not Price Them
Momentum members who earn at least 5 Status Points between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11, and Friday, Nov. 20, are eligible to play, the tournament pages say. The wording names both dates in one sentence and does not say whether points earned on one date count toward the other tournament.
Momentum is Mohegan Sun’s tiered rewards program, a format common at the best legal casinos, and Core membership is free for anyone 21 or older, according to the program’s FAQ. Mohegan Sun’s Momentum overview and FAQ pages say points come from play but list no dollars-per-point rate, so what 5 points costs in actual play is not stated. For scale, 5 points is 1.25% of the 400 that earn Ignite, the first tier above Core, the FAQ says.
One Winner Gets Both Shows, Three Nights And A $500 Dining Credit
Mohegan Sun’s Metallica ticket-package giveaway runs on the same Status Points. Entries accrue from Saturday, Oct. 17, through Saturday, Oct. 31, at a rate set by tier, according to the giveaway page: one entry per point for Core members, two for Ignite, three for Leap and Ascend, and four for Soar. At those rates, 100 points are worth 100 entries to a Core member and 400 to a Soar member, and the page does not disclose how many entries are in the drawing.
The package is two tickets to each show in sections 14, 26, 17 or 23, with rows not guaranteed, plus a three-night stay from Nov. 19 to 21, a $500 dining and beverage credit, two official concert T-shirts and a commemorative gift collection. There is one winner, the prize carries no buyout, and entrants must be Momentum members with a PIN.
Earned entries must be activated at any promotional kiosk on Saturday, Nov. 7, between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. Mohegan Sun says it will notify the winner by Monday, Nov. 9, two days before the first slot tournament.
